The Story of Baldur’s Gate 3

The game takes place in the year 1492 DR. Over 120 years after the events of Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn. But also months after the events of Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus. The player character, who can be customized in various ways, has been taken captive by the mind flayers, who are sinister creatures that can implant parasites into other beings and turn them into their slaves. The player character has been infected with a mind flayer tadpole. Which will eventually transform them into a mind flayer as well. However, something goes wrong with the infection. The player character gains some strange abilities, such as reading the thoughts of other infected creatures.

The player character escapes from the mind flayers’ flying ship, which crashes into the world of Faerûn. There, they encounter other survivors of the crash, who have also been infected with tadpoles. These survivors can become the player character’s companions. They include a human wizard named Gale, a half-elf cleric named Shadowheart, a high elf rogue named Astarion, a human warlock named Wyll, a githyanki fighter named Lae’zel, and a tiefling barbarian named Karlach. Each companion has their own personality, backstory, and goals. Other than that they can interact with the player character and each other in various ways.

The character and their companions must find a way to remove their parasites before they turn into mind flayers. Along the way, they will face many dangers and mysteries, such as the rising threat of the Absolute. A mysterious entity that is gathering followers among various factions. They will also explore various locations. Such as the city of Baldur’s Gate, the Underdark, and even other planes of existence.
