Tensor G3: Googles nya processor för Pixel 8

Google har sedan 2022 använt sina egna processorer i Pixel-serien, kallade Tensor. Dessa är anpassade för att driva Googles AI-funktioner och molntjänster, men har inte imponerat med sin råa prestanda. Nu kan det dock bli ändring på det med Tensor G3, som väntas driva Pixel 8 och Pixel 8 Pro.

Nyare komponenter och mindre tillverkningsprocess

Enligt en artikel från Notebookcheck.net kommer Tensor G3 att ha en nio-kärnig CPU, bestående av en Arm Cortex-X3-kärna, fyra Cortex-A715-kärnor och fyra Cortex-A510-kärnor. Dessutom ska processorn ha en Mali-G715 MC8 GPU och bygga på en Samsung 4nm-process. Detta skulle innebära en betydande uppgradering jämfört med Tensor G2, som hade en åtta-kärnig CPU med äldre Cortex-X1-, Cortex-A78- och Cortex-A55-kärnor, samt en Mali-G78 MP14 GPU och byggde på en Samsung 5nm-process.

Enligt sydkoreanska Pulse News, hävdar också att Tensor G3 bygger på Samsungs tredje generationens 4nm-process, som ska vara likvärdig med TSMC:s motsvarande teknik. TSMC är världsledande inom halvledartillverkning och levererar processorer till bland annat Apple, Qualcomm och AMD.

Fler fördelar med en kraftfullare processor

Att ha en kraftfullare processor i Pixel 8 kan ge flera fördelar för Google och användarna. För det första kan det möjliggöra nya funktioner som kräver mer beräkningskraft, till exempel avancerad bildbehandling, maskininlärning och AR/VR. För det andra kan det förbättra spelupplevelsen och stödja mer krävande titlar i framtiden. För det tredje kan det bidra till bättre batteritid och lägre värmeutveckling, tack vare den mindre och effektivare tillverkningsprocessen.

Det återstår att se om ryktena om Tensor G3 stämmer och hur processorn presterar i verkligheten. Google väntas presentera Pixel 8 och Pixel 8 Pro i höst, eventuellt i samband med I/O 2023 i maj.
